Leave Your Mark

Success is defined differently for everyone. For me, success is making a positive impact in the world and in my generation through my life, my ministry and my work. In the song "Background" by Christian rapper Lecrae ft. C-Lite, there is a lyric that explains how Lecrae desires to be seen by the world, as "a trail of stardust leading to the Superstar.” That’s how I aspire to be seen as well. That’s how I desire to leave my mark; pointing people to Jesus.  As I continue working on my craft and honing in on the God-given abilities with which I have been blessed, I’ve begun to see that writing and social media are areas in which I have the opportunity to make a lasting impact for God’s Kingdom through Simply Ari Media.

There is a book that I read called, Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht and I am so glad that I have it in my reading collection. I am a big fan of self-help books whether they be for Christians or more generally for business or related to the field of communication. On a random Amazon search one summer, I happened upon this book and after reading its sample pages online, I knew I wanted to read more.  Leave Your Mark takes the reader through Licht’s journey from working for a magazine to breaking into the fashion industry and eventually becoming the fashion communications executive for one of the most notable brands in fashion, DKNY. She found her niche by creating the brand voice for the company and became known more popularly as the “DKNY PR Girl.” Licht shares the story of her rise to fame and provides sage advice for anyone looking to find their own niche and land their dream job.

One of the things that I really appreciated about this book in particular, is that the author took the time to talk about the importance of social media in this digital age, but also balanced the conversation with discussing some of its cons. She shares real stories and provides practical solutions on how to best navigate the world of fashion, lifestyle and even journalism.
